Varsity Progress

In the 2016 season, we only scored 7 goals and had a staggering total of 109 goals scored against us--that's an average of 6.4 goals scored on us per game. Our overall record was 0-17; our record in our division--the DCL SMALL--was 0-8-0.

In the 2017 season, we scored 11 goals and allowed 70 goals against (average of 3.8 goals per game). Our overall record was 1-15-2. Our DCL SMALL record was 1-7. There was improvement from the 2016 season; however, there is still room for much more improvement!

In the 2018 season, we scored 15 goals and allowed 37 goals against (average of 2.05 goals per game). Our overall record was 4-10-4 (12 points). Our DCL SMALL record was 1-4-3. Toward the end of the season, our eyes were still on making the tournament--and this was a big deal!

In the 2019 season, we scored 14 goals and allowed 50 goals against (an average of 2.77 goals per game). Our overall record was 3-14-1 (7 points). Our DCL SMALL record was 0-8-0.

The 2020 season was an abridged season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Waltham went 2-3-0. In those five games, Waltham scored 8 goals and let up 8 goals. Waltham was named the DCL Champions as we beat Weston in the semifinal 4-1; the final game was not allowed to be played because the opposing team forfeited (they were not allowed to play Waltham because Waltham was--at the time--in the red with COVID cases).

Waltham's 2021 record was 7-10-2. In these 19 games, we scored 29 goals (2 were own-goals from our opponent) and had 23 goals scored against us (an average of 1.21 goals per game). The 2021 season was a season of firsts for Waltham High in the DCL. With a power ranking of #30, Waltham made it to the State Tournament for the first time since being in the DCL (i.e. for the first time since 2008). In the first play-off game, Waltham beat Durfee 5-0; Waltham went on to end the season with a 3-0 loss in the second playoff game vs DCL Champs Acton-Boxborough (but the game remained exciting as things were 0-0 at half).

Waltham's 2022 record was 8-6-1. The team made it to the State Tournament by Power Ranking and also--for the first time in 14 years!--for being .500! After beating North-Andover in overtime in an exciting preliminary round, Varsity ended the season with a hard-fought match against powerhouse Bishop-Feehan in the Round of 32.
