On January 8th, students of the Wallkill VRHS art department went on a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Located on 5th Ave. in New York City. Seeing art from centuries in the single-digits, to classic works of impressionism by Monet and Degas, the museum proved to be a spectacular visit. The students on the trip were taught lessons on art history by Mrs. Marxen and Mrs. Fairweather while touring the museum's vast collection.

After exploring the American wing of the museum, the class went outside for lunch and got a taste of New York City's bustling street life. On-demand poets, erratic jazz musicians, dogwalkers, and overpriced Kebab vendors crowded the Met's entrance.  Junior Tiffany Wilkie was charged $25 for a chicken Shawarma!  Many sat to people-watch. heading back inside for a final lap through the museum's gift shop and European wing.

The overwhelming amount of gorgeous artworks and intricate sculptures blew the minds of everyone on the trip. The way art has progressed in the last hundred years is a marvel in itself. However, when looking at life-like chiseled marble sculptures of goddesses, Sarcophagi from ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome, as well as towering medieval-era armor plates and weapons, one can't help but begin to admire the craftsmanship in everything around them. 

I greatly enjoyed the trip, and I'm glad I was given the opportunity to go. If you have the opportunity to go to the Met, ride the Lincoln, and go.
