AI is a super controversial topic for teachers and students, and there are good reasons why. Teachers often don’t like the idea of using AI, and a lot of students defend it like their life depends on it.

For many teachers the use of AI among their students suggests cheating. You know, asking AI for the answers and not putting any effort into actually learning the topic. However, some students use AI as a helpful tool. For example, there are certain apps, like Gauth AI, that can help students learn about a topic and memorize information. Gauth is one of the top known apps among teenagers, especially with the amount of ads and sponsors it has on Tik Tok. Unfortunately, like Chat GPT and other AI apps, it is mostly used to cheat. With so many AI platforms that can easily trick those who are unable to notice the difference between AI and real life, more cheating scams become easier to pull off.

With AI detectors becoming more popular among teachers, students are finding it harder and maybe more frustrating to get away with using AI.  See, some teachers and professors put things like essays through an AI detector to scan and identify if AI was used. However, there are a lot of complications with this process. Students have said that even though they typed out the whole essay themselves, it was flagged as AI for the use of em dashes, or other symbols that aren’t typically used in teenagers' work. Interestingly enough, according to various online  social media platforms,  the 1776 Declaration of Independence was flagged as AI, which helps to support those who claim that AI is an unreliable source for finding the usage of AI in schoolwork. The use of AI has also been linked with the environment, and how it is becoming a key factor in climate 

change. Other disadvantages include bias in AI algorithms, reduced human interaction, unpredictable inaccurate information, and of course, academic misconduct. 

Reduced human interaction is obviously one of the top reasons as to why it's not good for students, and there's good reason! Human interaction helps to shape a person and their personality. The things that a person goes through, good or bad, shapes who they are, and helps them learn and discover what they want to be and what they want to do in life. Human interaction is also important because it helps you learn social skills, which is something a person needs in life, especially after high school and college. When applying for a job, you'll need to act professional, dress professionally, especially during an interview, and you need to know how to properly interact with the people you work with. 

Do the advantages outweigh the negative impact AI has on society? Besides it being able to help students better understand a topic. AI can be used to provide feedback on a student's work, it can help with more inclusive lessons, provide more access to resources, help critical thinkers, and help personalize learning. When we think about AI, people think it’s going to take over human beings and their jobs, but the reality is that it never will, because it isn’t human. It doesn’t have the same creativity we do. AI is a helpful tool one way or another, but it’s important to use it properly. So instead of using it to cheat or speed through work, use it to better understand a topic that you're stuck on, or use it to help you out in other aspects of life.
