Cold weather and hot rivalries: The Rangers gear up for the intense winter sports season
It’s time for winter sports! Wallkill Valley offers many different types of sports for girls and boys including girls basketball, boys basketball, girls wrestling, boys wrestling, winter track, swimming, bowling and ice hockey. Being involved in a winter sport is a great way to stay active during the cold and gloomy winter months. Not only will they keep you fit and active, it's also a great way to meet new people and make new friends. The winter sport season begins around Thanksgiving and ends late February- early March.
Zoey Vanderbeck, a member of the girls basketball team, stated, "I enjoy playing basketball because I get to spend time with my friends and I think it's a good way to stay active." Jokingly, she followed up with, "I think if I wasn't playing basketball, I would go home after school and watch tv on the couch."
Gabriel Perrotto-Wald, a member of the boys wrestling team agreed, stating, "I enjoy being a part of the wrestling team because I have friends that do it, so it's fun. It also helps me stay in shape and it helps a lot with football and lacrosse. If I wasn't a part of the wrestling team, I would want to be a part of the ice hockey team." With so many options, students are sure to find something that fits their interests and skills.
Not interested in playing a sport? That's okay! You can always show your Ranger Pride from the bleachers. Boys basketball games usually attract the biggest crowds, with boys and girls wrestling coming in a close second for spectators. It's always fun to come and cheer in the student section with your friends, proving that winter sports CAN be for everyone! Check out the link below for Wallkill's athletic calendar!
