Students have their own spelling words to learn list in their red notebooks, which is created from adding words from commonly used words testing, Room 5s spelling wall and most importantly their own writing.
The Room 5 Daily AFTER INTERVAL Literacy activities include:
freewriting - following the writing process of planning, drafting, recrafting, peer share, editing, teacher share and publishing
keyboard practice with typing club
silent sustained reading (SSR) - reading milage
spelling books - testing and using the word wall, spelling assessments and students' own writing to make a list of new words to learn
scattergories - dictionary skills
handwriting - practise forming letters and number correctly
World Poetry Day
Students who entered their Voyages poem into the Kapiti Libraries poetry competition, were invited to read it at the Open Night Poetry Night on August 27 online.
Congratulations to all our Room 5 poets who read their poems on the night! Special mention to Ezekiel who recieved a special mention award from the judges!
