Hello! My name is Mr. Duncalf. I teach American Government at the high school and coach Speech. Last year I got to coach varsity radio, varsity short film, and a freshman acting ensemble. I also work part time for the DNR up at Backbone state park. In my free time I like to read and go on walks. I am very excited to see what the students bring to speech this year and to see them grow throughout the season.
Jenn never figured out what she wanted to do when she grew up after she figured out she wouldn’t be able to pursue her childhood dreams of being an astronaut or Broadway star, because of a terrible fear of heights, clumsiness, and fear of the spotlight. Instead of becoming a star or heading to space herself, she decided to help others “shoot for the stars”- in her day job, her fun job and volunteer roles. She holds degrees in social work and public administration. and has worked in various social services and public interest settings, including disability services and affordable housing. She is the Associate Executive Director at Area Residential Care in Dubuque.
Jenn lives in Manchester with her husband, Nathan, and their daughters Izzie (11, 5th grade) and Aurora (9, 4th grade), and their rescue dog, Carli. They have hosted international exchange students twice before, so Jenn says she also has two children in Europe. Jenn serves on the Board of Directors for Camp Wyoming and the Department of Public Transformation, a women led, rural arts nonprofit. In her free time, Jenn likes to attend live theater or concerts. She and Nathan have attended a number of hair band/rock concerts and they enjoy taking the kids to musicals or the symphony.
Speech and theater are a family affair for Jenn, who coaches group and solo musical theater and both varsity and freshman mime! Nathan is also a West Delaware speech coach and they were both part of a team leading Camp Theatre, a summer middle school theater camp. Jenn has also volunteered with the WD spring play the last 2 years. Jenn’s daughters have dubbed themselves the official WD speech team mascots and cheerleaders and Izzie is counting down the years until she gets to participate in speech herself!
Nathan lives in Manchester with his beautiful wife, Jenn, and their daughters Izzie (11, 5th grade) and Aurora (9, 4th grade), and his favorite family member, their rescue dog, Carli. He is the pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Manchester, so is quite familiar with the art of public speaking. Nathan likes to read (he usually has at least 5 books going at once), play video games (with the girls or by himself), cheer on his Denver Broncos (and wallow in the crushing feelings of defeat that follow most games), and rock out to 80s glam rock/metal (especially when Jenn humors him with a concert).
Along with being part of the team of co-directors for Camp Theatre, a summer middle school theater camp, Nathan coaches a number of speech events. He will be working with Tina and taking the lead with Freshmen group improv. He also coaches Expository address, Review, Individual improv, spontaneous speaking, original oratory and public address for individual events.
