Dr. Madrigal has been in the field of social work for over 40 years and has served in many capacities and environments with the focus on working with the behavioral health of those who are clinically significant. Areas of expertise include working with adults with mood disorders, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, hoarding behaviors, sexual identity, and addictions. Dr. Madrigal has served in the capacity for many years as a community leader, university instructor, coordinator, and consultant. He has dedicated his life to help others to discover their true being by helping strengthen his clients to live a life of purpose and meaning. Dr. Madrigal is fluent in both English and Spanish and is very sensitive to the spiritual needs of his clients. Working with Dr. Madrigal, you will see how is gift of relationship and individual care makes such an impact in the lives of others.

Carie Johnstone has been in the field of social work for the past 28 years. She has served in the capacities of crisis intervention, child and family welfare, community mental health, school social work, and private practice. Her passion in the field in mental and behavioral health, family systems, academia, policy, PTSD and trauma have led her to being a university instructor for 15 years along with administration positions, and offering consultative supports and services. Carie spent 7 years as a school district administrator implementing social emotional and behavior supports along with Special Education and Section 504. Carie’s professional memberships and collaborative relational strengths has brought her to a legislative appointment Board Member/Chair to the Illinois Community and Residential Services Authority (CRSA) which supports children and adolescents with mental health needs in the communities to help strengthen policies in Illinois. Her mission in life is to support the healing journey of others so they can live a joy filled & purposeful life.

Description of the services specifically offered to VVSD students/families:
Madrigal Consulting and Counseling, LLP provides counseling to referred VVSD middle and high school students in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere during the day at the Valley View Schools.

Procedures for VVSD studensts/families to receive
Madrigal counseling services:
Madrigal Counseling provides individual counseling in VVSD middle and high schools.
Student Service staff members will meet with family to provide an overview of the counseling services, when they will take place, and the reason for the referral.
School will Complete a Release of Information (ROI) form to allow Valley View staff to share student information with Madrigal Counseling. This must have a guardian signature prior sharing information with Madrigal Counseling through the referral form.
VVSD staff will make a referral to Madrigal Counseling in partnership with families through the IRIS referral system.
Madrigal's intake coordinator will reach out to the parent/guardian to complete insurance benefit check and schedule their child for counseling.
Cost for services is billed through family insurance. (*Scholarships may be available through VVSD/Madrigal). Madrigal accepts all insurances including Medicaid and Medicare plans.
Parents/Guardians MUST complete legally REQUIRED consent of services/authorization forms in order for their child to receive counseling from Madrigal:
In-School counseling services will begin based on Madrigal counselor and student availability.

Liz Marrero, Spanish Bilingual LSW Candidate
John J. Lukancic Middle School
My specialties include intellectual disabilities (primarily autism) and mental health with children, young adults, adults and families in homes, schools and hospital settings. Experience in working with clients encountering trauma, domestic violence, depression, suicidal ideations, life changes and seeking help with personal growth. Prospective clients can expect to receive a safe environment with full support, encouragement and open-minded therapy sessions. Specialize in the involvement of art, music and writing throughout therapy sessions. Provide full bilingual services in Spanish. Previous experience includes ten years of experience in school settings and four years of experience in mental health hospital settings. Education experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Concordia St. Paul University.

Jason Williams graduated from the Master's in Counseling Program at DePaul University. He enjoys working with teens and young adults, helping them work through the stress and issues that can come from all kinds of places. Jason is focused on helping others with anxiety and depression using strengths-based and solutions-focused approaches but is open to working with a wide variety of concerns. As a therapist in training, you can expect Jason to be warm, encouraging, and open-minded as well as a great listener. Some of his hobbies include watching movies, reading books, cooking, and playing video games.
Jane Addams Middle School
My name is Joseph Domingo but please feel free to call me Joe. I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University's Graduate Counseling Program. I like to use a cognitive-behavioral approach therapeutic approach as my counseling framework, while still incorporating other therapeutic interventions when necessary. I specialize in topics of anxiety and depression and crisis situations with clients between the ages of 12 and 30.
Brenda is a Spanish Bilingual Licensed Social Worker. She specializes in working with children and families who struggle with Anger Management, Life Transitions, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma Exposure. She utilizes evidence-based therapies, by helping clients explore issues, identify their strengths, and help them develop effective coping skills. She has served families with children of special needs, and has a passion for advocating for children, making sure that their voice is being heard.
Brenda's therapeutic approach is compassionate, engaging, and collaborative.

Dana is Madrigal's Intake and Scheduling Coordinator! She received her MA in teaching English education From Western Governors University and also holds her BA in linguistics and psychology from Iowa State University. Dana is a positive, compassionate, and motivated individual who serves Madrigal clients in a timely and efficient manner! She will easily cultivate trusting and productive relationships with you and answer any questions that you may have. With Dana’s warm and enthusiastic energy, she will tackle all of your intake and scheduling needs!
