Schoolhouse Counseling Center

A division of Hartgrove Hospital

The Schoolhouse Counseling Center is an Outpatient Mental Health Clinic accessible to VVSD students and families.  Services offered include Counseling and Medication Management.   through a Telepsychiatry provider.  Counseling Services are offered in-person to students during the school day and through telehealth for students and family members outside of school hours.  Psychiatry providers are available for medication management through a Telepsychiatry provider.  Some of the symptoms treated include depression/anxiety, mood dysregulation, behavioral disruptions and defiance, family/relationship strain, loss, trauma, social challenges, and many other needs.




Procedures for accessing services outside of the school day or virtual:

Families may contact the counseling center directly to access services by calling 773-762-9453 to inquire about services and/or schedule an appointment.

Tracy Stone

Tracy is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and received a Master’s Degree in Community and Agency Counseling from St. Xavier University.  Currently, she is working to build a program that can meet the mental health needs of students within a school setting. Tracy’s therapy approach embodies trust, compassion, Cognitive Behavioral, and Solution Focused techniques. Tracy brings a unique perspective to counseling due to her experience of working in corporate America and being a business owner prior to becoming a therapist.  Additional Certifications include:  Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP) and Perpetrator Abuse Interventions Program (PAIP) allowing her to be trained to counsel Domestic Violence Victims and Perpetrators.

Ashley Kuhl Piwowarski, Psy.D

Executive Director of Outpatient Services

Licensed Clinical Psychologist and the Executive Director of Outpatient Services for Hartgrove Behavioral Health System. She oversees all outpatient operations for the system, including the traditional outpatient centers, school-based centers, and telehealth services.  She completed her post-doctoral fellowship requirements at Hartgrove Hospital and is a graduate of Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. Dr. Kuhl’s clinical interests include assessment and psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and families, program development, and the role of psychologists in administrative settings.

Cathy Pena

Medical Assistant
Catherine Pena was born in Arlington Heights and grew up in Chicago. She is fluent in Spanish and English. Worked in a bilingual pediatric clinic for 6 years. Catherine graduated from Lincoln Tech College as a certified medical assistant in 2018 and now works for Hartgrove Behavioral Health since 2019.

Brenda Rogers

LCPC, NCC
Brenda R., LCPC, NCC, is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She holds a Masters of Arts (MA) in Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. Brenda brings a unique skill set to the Schoolhouse Counseling Center team.  Throughout her 20 year career in education, she has taught students with a plethora of special needs and provided them with the necessary support to succeed in an academic setting. Midway into her teaching career, Brenda transitioned to occupying a dual position as a Case Manager/School Counselor in Chicago Public Schools before retiring after 34.5 years of service. She enjoys reading, exercising, traveling, and spending time with her family & dogs. Brenda specializes in her professional practice with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, disruptive behaviors, relationship challenges, self-esteem, trauma, and students on the autism spectrum and ones labeled learning disabled.  She believes that each individual has their own story that shapes their most recent experiences.  She seeks to incorporate a collaborative and strength-based approach to meet the unique needs of her clients.  Her preferential treatment modalities include (but are not limited to): (1) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (2) Person-Centered Therapy, and (3) Motivational Interviewing.

Allison Kim

Clinical Therapist
Allison is a clinical therapist specializing in adolescents and families.  Her education background is Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology with adolescents and family systems specialty. Her approach to therapy is integrative with emphasis on meeting clients where they are, being mindful and supporting them to achieve their goals.  She is dedicated to her work and wants to form rapport with her clients with respect, empathy, and unconditional positive regard.  She is trained in CBT and DBT with basis of Rogerian to effectively solve problems, resolve conflicts, and respond to the needs of clients.  She is fueled by her passion to help and work with people from different cultures, ages, and backgrounds and she is also eager to build on her academic foundations in psychology to achieve recovery and improvement in clients.  Her determination has made differences in the lives of the patients she has seen at the hospital and she hopes to do the same for new clients.  She believes that a non-judgmental and caring therapist combined with using the right tools can create change and begin the healing process to better mental well being.

Katrina Kluska



Katrina is a dedicated mental health therapist with a strong academic background. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Roosevelt University and went on to complete her Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to joining the Schoolhouse Counseling Center team at Hartgrove Behavioral Health, Katrina gained valuable experience at Trinity Services, Inc., as part of their Mobile Crisis Response Unit, in partnership with the Orland Park Police Department, providing crucial mental health services to individuals in the community.

Katrina's expertise lies in working with children and adolescents, and she excels in integrating a variety of evidence-based therapies into her treatment approach. Her toolkit includes Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, and Relational therapies, which she tailors to meet the unique needs of each individual she works with. 

Veronica Hiltscher



We are happy to have Veronica Hiltscher, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, join our Schoolhouse/Hartgrove Hospital team as full-time therapist in the schools this year. Veronica is a seasoned therapist and comes to us with years of experience. She has experience working with an array of children with emotional/behavioral/social needs and their families. She received her MSW at UIC-Jane Addams College of Social Work in Chicago in 2001. Prior to her full-time position with us, she was a part-time therapist working for Hartgrove Hospital for ten years, as she worked as a school social worker in schools as well.  She also specializes in working with children on the autism spectrum. She loves to bring her creativity and theater experience to the work she does so she can reach every child she works with.
