One of the area’s leading non-profit organizations, the YMCA, is committed to strengthening our community through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Through its four facilities - two in Joliet, one in Plainfield, and one in Morris, and at program locations throughout our community - the Y serves thousands of area residents each and every day. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health, and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. But, most importantly, its doors are open to everyone, regardless of age, income or background. At the Y, no one is ever turned away due to the inability to pay.
Located just west of downtown Plainfield, the C.W. Avery Family YMCA opened its doors to the community in 2006. Home to more than 15,000 members, the C.W. Avery Family YMCA provides exceptional year-round programming for children, adults and families, including before and after school programs, summer camps, youth sports, group fitness classes and swim lessons, among others.
Youth Sports
When kids play sports, they do more than just exercise. Besides being physically active, they develop higher self-esteem, perform better in school and work better in groups. The Y’s Youth Sports program teaches kids the fundamentals of the game while emphasizing the importance of teamwork. Above all, kids who participate in YMCA youth sports have a lot of fun.
The C.W. Avery Family YMCA provides year-round sports programs for youth, ages 4-12. Sports leagues include baseball, soccer, flag football and basketball. The Y also offers more than a dozen sports camps each summer.

Swim Lessons
The Y has been teaching kids how to swim for more than a century, providing lessons about water safety in a fun and safe environment. With a wide range of swimming lesson options for the entire family and convenient class times, the Y is your one-stop source for swimming fun.
At the Y, the community has access to:
Year-round swim instruction for children six months and older
Private, group and adaptive swim lessons
Classes offered six days per week
The Joliet JETS Swim Team
Safety Around Water
At the Y, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through our innovative Safety Around Water program, formerly known as Project SOAR, we partner with several local community agencies and schools to ensure that area children have the opportunity to learn to swim and enjoy recreation time at the Y.
Since the program’s launch in 2008, the Y has provided more than 10,000 free swim lessons for kids in Joliet and the surrounding communities. This is made possible through the generosity of local businesses and grantors, including the United Way of Will County.
