Perfect Pets!

Kathrine's Pet's

Willow (left) is a year-old sugar glider born on January 24 and Lucy (right) is also a year old Leucistic Sugar Glider (Rare breed of sugar glider) born on January 10. Kathrine has had them for about 9-10 months and got them when they were about 4 months. They love to burrow and hide, play with her, climb into her shirt, curl up into a ball and cuddle, and sleep on her. Sugar Gliders are nocturnal so they are most active at night.

Megan's Pet's

Sugar (left) a 12-year-old horse and Annie (right), an 8-year-old horse that are both very friendly. They are both on the green level which is the beginning of their training process. What Megan loves about them are their personalities. Sugar is more of a cuddly and attention seeker while Annie is more of a chill type horse. Some of the tricks they can do are jumping over obstacles.

Sports Overtime

Volleyball Tournament

On February 14, 2020, Glen Meadow hosted the 2nd Volleyball Tournament of the 2019-2020 school year. The event was organized by teachers Mr. Oakes and Ms. Donahue and was very successful. A total of 15 teams of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders participated in this event and created their own team shirts displaying their team names. The final two teams that played for the winning title were “Shake and Bake” vs “Net Ninjas” and the close team in third place was “Belly Bumps.”

We were lucky to have the Vernon Township High School Volleyball team come down and help serve as referees and provide other help in running the tournament. The event began with four of our own students, Liam Kelter, Alyssa Doughty, Samantha Vasquez, and Melody Buccieri singing the National Anthem for us. The tournament also collected cans of food for the Harvest House and was very successful.

Stay tuned for information on when the next volleyball tournament will be held!

Comics, Cartoons, & Trivia

Wanna hear a joke about Vikings? Never mind, there’s Norway you’d laugh at it!

Have you ever wondered why Greenland is icy and Iceland is green?

A popular internet theory is that the Vikings named that that way to confuse their enemies.

Do you believe that? IS IT REALLY TRUE... something for you to think about and research on your own!

Thank you for the great artwork Amelie Bruhns!

Aerial Yoga

Caterina Pleva loves Aerial Yoga. Aerial yoga is a hybrid type of yoga developed in 2014 combining traditional yoga poses, Pilates, and dance with the use of hanging silks. This activity is really hard, it requires strength, and it has three different levels. These levels are Hammock (one looped silk material), Split Silks (two long silks), and Lyra (hanging hula hoop). Caterina does all three. Her favorite level is the Split Silks. She said that this was her favorite because it is, “hard but not too hard and it builds up grip strength. It's the most fun,” she says, “because there are many drops and it feels like you are flying.”

Caterina performed on her portable aerial yoga supports in the Variety Show of the school year 2019-2020. There are different levels within the levels spoken of above. The most important rule of aerial yoga is, don’t let go. If you would like to try Aerial Yoga, Caterina said it is best to start out by signing up as a beginner at hammock at an aerial yoga studio.

National PAL Representative

The National PAL Region 6 Youth Mentoring Conference was held at Great Wolf Lodge this year. Jamie LeFort attended this meeting from February 20th-22nd. This Youth Mentoring Conference had approximately 130 teenagers from 6 states in attendance for three days to participate in mentoring and leadership workshops. The conference gives the participants an opportunity to engage in discussions on age-appropriate topics on social media, crimes, financial literacy and diversity. Only four girls from the Vernon school District went in total, and Jamie was one of the lucky attendees. They took a plane there and back, and in their free time, and they were lucky enough to tour Williamsburg and Virginia. Jamie said she got to play games to work on communication with people they didn’t know and to improve their leadership skills. She said it was great participating in the group talks on multiple multiple topics, and she got to know many people from across the country. Way to go Jamie!
