GED Preparation

GED Overview

Most jobs and all colleges require applicants to have a high school diploma or GED equivalency diploma. This self-guided course is an introduction to the GED and the four subject tests - Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science. Participants will become familiar with the format of the GED test and the TI-30XS calculator, review sample questions, and learn test-taking strategies.

GED Support Drop-In

This drop-in hour is designed to answer questions about the GED Program, practice tests, scheduling testing (online or in a center), minor permission forms, and proper ID.  Do you have a study question? Hop in!  We can look at your GED Academy account, GED Ready results or other study materials to problem-solve whatever you may feel stuck on. The group runs weekly and is designed for you to join as needed.

GED Math Prep

Do you need to brush up on math before taking the GED Mathematical Reasoning test? This course is intended for students who are preparing for the Math GED. This is a short refresher course focused on calculator skills, familiarity with the GED reference sheets, test-taking strategies, and commonly missed questions. It would be a good addition OR follow up to Stats/Geometry/Algebra or College and Career Math courses listed in the Math section of this catalog. 

ged math & science support drop-in

Drop-in time - Students will have the option to work in an individual break-out room for private one on one help. The amount of one on one time will depend on the number of students attending. Students can get help with any math/science content or interpreting GED Ready reports, test-taking tips, etc. 

GED Reading Skills

This course is intended for students who are 144 and under on the GED practice test(s) in RLA, Science, or Social Studies. The focus will be on making inferences, analyzing text, and how identifying and using evidence in the text to understand arguments.

GED Review - Science

Do you need help reading scientific text and understanding charts, graphs, and diagrams? This course will focus on vocabulary and an overview of Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science with ample time for student questions and practice. A review of Mathematics related to Science, such as simple statistics and interpreting graphs and charts, is also included.

Pre-ged math - Part 1

This course is intended for students who have a general idea of the foundational skills in math but struggle when working on them.  Part 1 of this course is designed to provide students with foundational skills in number sense, whole numbers, squares, cubes, square roots, and fractions.  This will allow students to build on their skill set with confidence as they approach more complicated math.

Pre-ged math - Part 2

This course is intended for students who have a general idea of the foundational skills in math but struggle when working on them.  Part 2 of this course is designed to provide students with the foundational skills in decimals, ratios, proportions, and percents.  This will allow students to build on their skill set with confidence as they approach more complicated math. 

GED Review - Language Arts Lab

Do you need to brush up on Reading or Writing before taking the GED Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) test? This lab is intended to help students pass the RLA GED Test. Students will refine their writing, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Students are expected to work with the instructor to identify the subjects and topics on which they need help and commit to improving their understanding and knowledge. This lab would be a good addition OR follow- up to the Grammar, Writing, and Reading courses listed in the Language Arts section of this catalog. 

GED Review - Social Studies Lab

Do you need to brush up on U.S. History, Government, and Civics for the GED Social Studies exam? This course will prepare the student to pass the Social Studies GED Test. To best prepare for the test, the course will cover the basics of United States History, Government, Geography, Economics, and the context of this material in relation to current events. Students are expected to work with the instructor to identify the subjects and topics on which they need help and commit to improving their understanding and knowledge. This lab would be a good addition OR follow-up to the Civics: US Government course listed in the Social Studies section of this catalog.

GED Review - Science Lab

This course will prepare the student to pass the Science GED Test. To best prepare for the test, the course will cover the basics of Earth, Life, and Physical Science. Students are expected to work with the instructor to identify the subjects and topics on which they need help and commit to improving their understanding and knowledge.
