Designed for non-literate and pre-literate adult English learners, this course utilizes the Stand Out Literacy Foundations curriculum to introduce the most fundamental mechanics of reading and writing. Students build essential print awareness, phonemic awareness, letter recognition, and sound-symbol relationships while learning basic numerical concepts and high-frequency vocabulary. Highly visual, hands-on practice and guided repetition allow learners to develop confidence, fine motor skills, and foundational listening comprehension in a supportive environment. Integrated lessons introduce introductory digital literacy and basic life skills, helping students recognize simple signs, tools, and technology in their daily surroundings. Upon completion, participants will possess the foundational literacy skills and learning readiness required to confidently enter the Stand Out Level Basic curriculum.

Tailored for literacy-level and low-beginning adult English language learners, this course utilizes the Stand Out Level Basic curriculum to introduce foundational language skills for everyday life. Students develop fundamental literacy, basic vocabulary, and essential grammar structures through highly visual and guided practice in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Interactive, hands-on activities and real-world scenarios encourage learners to apply practical communication to simple daily routines and familiar contexts. Integrated lessons foster introductory digital literacy and life skills, helping participants navigate basic technology and essential community resources. Upon completion, learners will possess the foundational English proficiency required to manage simple interactions independently and advance to Level 1 coursework.

Students refine their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while mastering complex grammar structures and specialized workplace vocabulary. Each class will focus on listening, conversation, discussion, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Classes are designed to address student needs and areas for growth, based on lessons in StandOut's online platform. Units include Balancing Your Life, Personal Finance, Automotive Know-How, Housing, Health, Retail, At Your Service, and Civic Responsibility.
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 5 Course or Assessment Placement at EFL Level 6
This 7-week course will prepare students to take the U.S. Citizenship Test. We will learn about the branches of government, what government officials do, important events in the history of the U.S., the rights and responsibilities of citizens, the American flag, and naturalization interviews.

On-Ramp courses have rolling enrollment so that students can join at any point in the year. Some are open to all levels, while some are designed for specific EFL levels. On-Ramp courses are a great way to engage with a community of learners while focusing on a specific skill or topic.
