I feel extremely blessed to teach here at Voyager and to be a part of this new class of first grade students! I am confident that this year will be both productive and successful. It will be full of learning and fun! Together we will watch our children grow more confident in their ability to work together with purpose, think more critically, and be independent readers and writers. It’s going to be an exciting year that we will tackle together as a classroom community. I’m anxious to get to know your child and to continue to inspire their love of learning!
Now, a little about myself…
I was born and raised in Granville County, right around the corner! After attending college in Greenville I moved back to the area, began teaching, and married my wonderful husband Brandon. We live in Bahama and we are surrounded by family. I am also the mother to Easton, a rising second grader! When I’m not spending time with family, I enjoy reading, spending time at Kerr Lake or Atlantic Beach, and shopping for new children's books to add to our classroom library.
I currently have 13 years of first grade teaching experience, five of which have been here at Voyager. I graduated from East Carolina University in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. In 2009, I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Reading Education, again from East Carolina. Go Pirates! As of 2010, I am also a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Literacy: Reading-Language Arts.
Again, I am thrilled to be here at Voyager and to begin this new school year! Our classroom will be a nurturing and supportive environment where your child will look forward to learning each day. Together we will learn, work, and play as a classroom family! Hang on… it’s going to be an unforgettable adventure!
