The warning signs shown by both Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold made Columbine a preventable tragedy. The combination of both their journals and their home videos along with school assignments that raised concern among teachers show what led these boys to commit one of the worst mass shootings in history. Ignoring the shooter’s criminal record along with police reports by concerned parents allowed Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold to commit this tragedy. Learning to recognize the warning signs of mental health struggles and not ignoring acts of petty crime can be useful in preventing further tragedy. My intended purpose for this project was to highlight what led the Columbine shooters to do what they did and some of the warning signs that could have helped prevent this. A strength of this project is that it contains the most relevant information for the intended purpose but something that could be worked on is the flow of information. Something I learned from this project is how to tell a story using artifacts. I learned this by choosing a topic that was related to my archive’s purpose and finding an artifact to go along with it. Something I would like to get better at is narrowing down information because I was struggling with decide what to include and what to leave out.
