The much-anticipated Writers’ Circle March Camp delivered a memorable adventure, bringing together budding writers from all corners to ignite their creativity and strengthen their bonds. This camp definitely penned an unforgettable chapter in our March holidays!
The day kicked off with a fun round of icebreakers that allowed everyone to get to know each other. Students were randomly assigned into groups with a mix of J1s, J2s and exco members, ensuring everyone had the chance to mingle with each other! Laughter echoed through the room as new friendships were formed, setting the perfect tone for the rest of the day.
Then, the excitement ramped up with a thought-provoking workshop led by our very own Mr Teo Gene En and Celine Leow, the Teachers-in-Charge of Writers’ Circle. A master of the craft, Mr Teo guide d the creative wing through the fascinating art of crafting six-word stories. Inspired by the legendary Ernest Hemingway’s minimalist masterpiece, “For sale: baby shoes, never worn”, our writers embraced the challenge of telling an entire story in just six words. The results were nothing short of impressive; each story packed with emotion, mystery or humour.

Meanwhile, the press wing had their own exciting adventure. Each group dove into writing pieces on trending topics that sparked curiosity and debate. Among the most engaging themes were aura farming, a strange yet compelling topic that had everyone discussing how people cultivate online personas. Let’s not forget helicopter parenting, which had participants exploring the effects of overprotective parenting on today’s youth. The writers showcased their research skills and wit, bringing fresh perspectives on these often-discussed issues.

As the day progressed, the fun didn’t stop. Students were treated to a thrilling visit to the Asian Civilisations Museum, where the real learning began. Make no mistake; this wasn’t just any ordinary museum tour. Our Exco members had cleverly turned the experience into a treasure hunt, making the exploration of Asian cultures and practices both educational and exhilarating.

Felicia Ong from 25S53, a student who attended the camp, shared her thoughts on the experience: “The camp wasn’t just about writing. It helped me bond with my new CCA mates and get to know new friends. The activities were engaging, and I especially loved the museum visit.”
The day ended with smiles and a wealth of new knowledge. We hope everyone walked away inspired with fresh ideas for their creative endeavours.
As we look forward to the next session, we can’t help but feel excited about what lies ahead. Until then, keep writing!
