It is with heavy hearts that the members of Writers' Circle bid farewell to a group of seniors who have been an integral part of the CCA. As they move on to a new stage in their lives, we come together one final time to celebrate and reminisce on the impact and contributions they have done for the club. This farewell marks both the end and the start of a new journey for Writers’ Circle, as we juniors step up to carry on the legacy that our seniors have left to us.
Despite having organized a simple and small BBQ, the atmosphere was just as lively and enthusiastic as ever. Members gathered around the BBQ pit to cook and roast marshmallows, but mostly just to exchange jokes and stories of our CCA. Despite having some unintended consequences of food getting burnt, the mood was not affected and we had a good laugh about it after. Our members may not be the best chefs, but they sure know how to make a party fun!
On top of that, a Writers’ Circle gathering would not be unique to us if it did not have its own quirks. The animal lovers were pleasantly surprised to find the presence of a rat. Despite having part of our food made inedible due to the rat’s greed, our members were excited to seek it out and to welcome it into our humble event. They made the most out of the food - instead of throwing it away, they set it aside to lure the rat out, in hopes of catching a video of our new animal friend.
Our very own Head of Outreach, Loic, generously setting out some food offerings for the rat (which ended up attracting pigeons instead), and patiently waiting to catch a photo of the rat (he didn’t get it in the end, and we lost the food too).
Our (unprofessional) chefs, Ray Kit and Aufal, as well as our seniors (+ Loic & Sreshti), gathered around to watch the food burn. Thankfully we did not cause any fire emergencies!
Whilst the juniors were busy chasing rats, the seniors were happy to entertain themselves too, with a lovely karaoke session. Hosted by lead vocalist and rapper Isabel, as well as backup vocalists Ashlee and Ray Kit, we can all agree that the audience was deeply moved by their beautiful performance.
“I didn’t have high hopes for this farewell.” - Ashlee, our previous chairperson. Thanks for the trust you put into our organization skills, Ashlee! You seem to have enjoyed it in the end.
To sum it up, the farewell was a pretty great success, especially since it was the very first event planned by our new EXCO. The juniors of Writers’ Circle are extremely grateful to all the seniors, especially the EXCO of 2022-2023: Ashlee, Kashvi, Harnoor and Xiaonan, for their guidance and support through all the CCA sessions, our writing, and for just being there when we needed a helping hand. As much as we will miss you all, we are equally happy to watch you move on to the next stage in your life, and to achieve success in all your future endeavors.
Wishing you all the best!
