Introduce this Unit: During this project, we were redesigning our bedrooms. Our class driving question: "How can we use scientific principles to design sustainable environments?" So I came up with my driving question: "How can I improve my bedroom using automation and feng shui to make it feel more relaxing?" by thinking about how feng shui could influence our psyche subconsciously, which I want to feel relaxing.
What I Learned and Applied: Scaling, floor plan, mood board, feng shui, and automation.
What I did: I drew two pieces of floor plan, one is the walls and doors, and another is for the furniture. I cut the furniture out and put it between the walls, took a picture for the original layout, then we rearranged it to follow the rules of feng shui, took another picture after. And then think of what manual operations I would like in my room. Finally, make a presentation of my redesign.
I could check the presentation before pulling it out, because the pictures on my slide deck just shut down when I need them, an extremely vital improvement I must make next time.
I could have practiced the presentation skills, due to my lack of ability to speak fluently while trying to form full sentences in my head.
I would try to finish my other homework first next time, because I have to finish a few English and other subjects' homework, including preparing for a quiz during the week of the presentation, so I didn't have much time.
I recieved a feedback that I added too many unnecessary Canva graphics in my slide deck. I think I could reduce the amount of them, so I reduced the GIFs by a page or two in the final version.
I learned how to use Floorplanner in math class, which reduced the time I needed to create my mood board. PBL and math have similarities, like how I have to do calculations, SEL skills, and projects.
This is our "before" classroom scale. The orange boxes are the AC.
We recieved a result saying the lights and AC should be changed.
This is our "after" classroom. The yellow arrows are representing energy flow, the blue star is the most restful place, and blue arrows are the flow of cold air (redesign version of the AC's effects).
Someone noticed that our PPT uses long, full sentences, which doesn't meet the expectation. All content must be in bullet points instead of the driving questions, so we turned the whole slide deck around and cut all sentences in the final version.
