Kingdoms evolution

Introducction

A fossil is any preserved remains, impression, or trace of any once-living thing from a past geological age in sedimentary rocks.

Index fossils (also known as guide fossils or indicator fossils) are fossils used to define and identify geologic periods . Index fossils must have a short vertical range, wide geographic distribution and rapid evolutionary trends.

Zone fossil is used when the fossil has all the characters stated above except wide geographical distribution, they are limited to a zone and can't be used for correlations of stratas.

We are going to work with different fossils and at the end of our study we will create a biostratigraphy.

Kingdoms evolution - suport

Investigate about the classifying methods scientists use and learn from the explanations of your teacher.

Then, pay attention to the vocabulary.

We have already worked on two kingdoms: Monera and Protista. Now you are going to discover the characteristics of the other 3 Kingdoms: Plants, Fungi and Animalia.

  1. There are 8 sets of fossils belonging to these three Kingdoms of living beings. With the help of the teacher you must distribute these groups between each team (you cannot repeat).
  2. Use the Research Worksheet below to guide your research and to record your information.
  3. Within your team, you must decide who will research each part.
  4. Use the Science Bits (Unit: Diversity of life or others about the specific groups) to complete your work. There are some useful sites listed below.
  5. After everyone in your team has completed the research process for the group, discuss the research findings and make sure that everyone agrees on the information. It's so important to collaborate with your team and revise information.
  6. Once your team has completed the worksheet, it is time to create a Poster. Decided the images o pictures you need to print.
  7. After the teacher review you will exhibit them in the classroom.
