Official Virtual Tournament Guidelines

Rules for All Events

  1. Participants are expected to complete all three official tournament events. All events may be completed individually. Designated team events may be completed alone or in a small group.

  2. Participants may not preview any Tournament problems before the time they have set aside to complete the event under specified time constraints.

  3. For the purpose of awards, a “team” will be considered the group of all girls competing in the same division from the same school. Teams may have one to any number of members. Some schools may choose to organize "sub-teams" to facilitate small group collaboration for the designated team events.

  4. Once the participant has begun an event, she must complete it uninterrupted.

  5. Coaches and parents are not permitted to help with any events. By registering, all participants and parents/guardians have agreed to abide by all Tournament rules.

  6. Participants must submit their event results as soon as possible after completing each event. To be eligible to win awards, all required documentation must be submitted for all three events.

  7. Participants must not discuss the Tournament problems or events with anyone until after the submission deadline has passed. The exception is made for the designated team events that you may discuss the tournament problems with your teammates during the event. Your honesty and integrity are essential to the success and fairness of the Virtual GEM Tournament.

  8. It is allowed for students to work (in a socially-distanced, safe way) with girls from other schools for a team event, but keep in mind, you are still competing as a representative of your own school.

  9. If you choose to coordinate with others to form small groups for working on designated team events, please always be thoughtful and kind and as inclusive as possible.
