Past Tournament Problems
For reasons of copyright, we cannot post past tournament problems on our website, but once registered, schools will receive email access to two sets of past tournament problems, including at least one past hands-on challenge, as well as additional coaching resources. Registration for the 2025 GEM Tournament will open on or around November 18.
The GEM Tournament is structured to be accessible to all learners, regardless of their prior experience with math competition-type problems. That said, some teachers find the day most valuable to their students when they have had a chance to prepare them for the kind of tasks they will see at the tournament. One way to do so is to engage in the monthly contests from Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS), or purchase print collections of past MOEMS contest problems. MathCounts is another great option with available practice problems and is free to participating schools. Note, MOEMS is the same source we use for our tournament problems.
Please also reach out to us at gem@villageschool.us if your school does not have budget for purchasing such materials, as we have limited funds available to help interested schools. Note, participation in MOEMS is NOT required for participation in the tournament. We don't get any kick-backs if you sign up either, so no pressure!
Another way to prepare is to take advantage of the GEM Teams resources we have prepared for you. You will receive access to these by email after pre-registering for this year's event.
