Tournament Details

Who: 

4th through 8th grade girls excited about doing fun, challenging math and hands-on problem-solving. Must be registered through your school to participate. 


What: 

Village School's 13th Annual Girls Excelling in Math (GEM) Tournament

The tournament includes three official events: 

the Individual Paper-Pencil Math Event (10 problems, 30 minutes), 

the Team Paper-Pencil Math Event (10 problems, 30 minutes), and 

the Team Hands-On Challenge (typically 20 minutes of build time). 

Participants also complete raffle math problems throughout the day to enter to win raffle prizes. The problems are not part of the official events.

No calculators are permitted.


When: 

Saturday, April 20, 2024, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Why: 

To encourage more girls to engage in challenging math and envision their future in STEM fields. 

Each participant will receive a tournament t-shirt and will have the chance to win raffle prizes and awards! Lunch and snacks are also provided.

This is a free event for girls in grades 4-6 or 6-8 from schools in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area.
