Surface Player in action with laser line reflecting off of a white paper crane.
This project, a collaborative effort, involved crafting an interactive sculpture inspired by a record player. The innovation allowed objects to be 'played' on the turntable, utilizing a camera to detect a red laser line projected onto the object. Python was employed to simplify this line into a set of points, later converted into a waveform audible through speakers. While my primary focus was on design elements, I contributed across various aspects. During this project, I learned about finger joints and material selection for light diffusion, designed the turntable mechanism, and conceptualized the patterns adorning the turntable.
