This sculpture was a study in assembly. My goal was to turn something on the lathe and then create dowel pins to attach another element, which is how I setteled upon the form of an old skeleton key.
This is my first furniture project!
my goal was to create a piece of functional furniture with some element of live edge or rough-cut wood. I learned a lot through the process of this project, such as how to set up a table saw to create parallel cross-cuts on opposing sides of organic and round objects, as well as how to rough cut large elements to make them easier to work with. I learned about drying out the wood so it can be worked with without splitting. This project was also a lesson in hidden joinery and finishing wood surfaces with polyurethane.
This is my first wooden sculpture. It is rougher than I originally intended, but I decided to use wood burning to lean into that blocky child toy aesthetic. throughout the process of making this sculpture, I learned about how big of an impact grain has when carving with a chisel. I also got more experience
using woodworking handtools.
