Ceramic sculpture
This is my first ever ceramic sculpture! I had a tough time with it but I'm proud of the final product. I wanted to explore the feelings I have experienced of wanting to change your body. I wanted to demonstrate the thoughts that I and other fat people have had about cutting off their fat or getting into an accident/getting so sick that they lose weight. This is where the idea of the medium of clay came into play. These scary thoughts have plagued me since I was younger but I have been working on accepting my body for what it is. This piece kind of feels like a final goodbye to those thoughts.
At first I wanted to make this piece into a final 2-D work since it is what I am comfortable with. But when researching what ceramic sculptures and clay look like so that I could draw it, I decided that making a sculpture would be the best way to illustrate my answer to my inquiry question. I chose this glaze because of the brilliant blue that comes through so that the gashes would be highlighted.
