"Take Your Body Type Quiz Now!"
Colored pencil on paper
Progress shot:
I've seen "What's your fruit body type?" quizzes online and "How to style your body shape" videos since gaining access to the internet in my developmental years. They made me feel bad about my body and constricted what I felt I was allowed to wear. In this piece I wanted to go against the stereotypes by giving the "pear-shape" body type a straighter frame, the orange a more muscular build, etc. The stars are meant to show how our bodies may be different but in the end they are beautiful and just bodies, they don't define us.
This piece started out as just a sketch of an apple from Wes Anderson's "Fantastic Mr. Fox." Then I started to think about the meanings behind and the ideas that apples inspire. The "apple body shape" came to my mind and I decided to create a figure that has a shape that goes against that.
The figures' lack of faces and having fruit instead dehumanizes them, just like how being put into boxes feels. But, the fruit can also represent their personalities or their souls. The figures are glowing, giving them an ethereal aura.
