The Location Recce led into being able to complete the Risk Assessment as once I had understood where we were going to film, I could complete this document.
First, I spoke to someone who had experience of completing a risk assessment as I had never done one of these before. They told me to be logical in going through scene by scene in my head, thinking through any dangerous elements and he told me that the beauty of a small group is to ask your team if there is anything that concerns them risk wise.
I took on board this advice and then I looked back at the footage that we had gathered on the recce and compared it to my sheet with hazards to consider. I listed all potential hazards that we could encounter and how we would mitigate any identified risks.
Once I had completed it, I made everyone in my group and my actor aware of all the potential risks and how to avoid them. I made sure everyone had proper shoes and clothing for the filming, especially as one of my group was a foreign student who might not have been aware of the unpredictable weather. I made sure that everyone knew what to do if anything did go wrong.
