I used a variety of video equipment to shoot the film and computer software to edit it.
For the pre production I used Google Docs, Google Sheets and Word. I used Google Docs and Google Sheets as it was a collaborative project and these tools allowed us to work independently on the same documents.
For the production, I used a DC-GH5 Lumix camera. The Lumix DC-GH5 camera was simple and accessible for a newcomer to use and operate. The camera was easy because the focussing and exposure were not too daunting and there was a lot of information on the Internet which helped us.
We did experiment with artificial lighting but as we were filming outside it did not add anything to our shots, it was too obvious that we were using lighting and gave the character an unnatural look.
For shots from a fixed position, I used the tripod and for tracking shots, I used the Fig Rig so that the camera could move but stay stabilised. The Fig Rig was a piece of equipment that only became available to me at the later stages of the shoot which meant it was underutilised as some of the earlier shots would have benefited from the camera being in motion rather than static on a tripod.
Post production, I used Premiere Pro. This was my preferred software because it offers unique effects that I wanted to use in my editing process. One example is the channel mixer which is a tool that allows me to highlight a single colour in a scene and connect it with a keyframe. I experimented using this effect to highlight the redness of the blood drips throughout the clip.
Premiere Pro also has a very good colour correction system which allowed me to change the exposure, contrast and highlights and these are some of the key lightning changes that I made in the post production edit.
Premiere also has an effect called Warp Stabilizer which analyzes the scene using AI technology to remove instability from the clip. This helped with the edit because when filming, the camera still shook due to the uneven ground even with the use of the Fig Rig.
I created a tutorial using OBS Studio to record my actions in Premiere Pro whilst also recording my instructions as an audio track. Press play on the video to the left to see the tutorial.
I used a YouTube tutorial to learn how to do colour correction.
