During the release stage of the project I got promoted to the Terrain Lead position. In this position I had responsibility over:
Guiding the focus of the level design team
Ensuring consistency of quality in the roughly 5km2 open world map
Reviewing and locking the map before the final release of the game
In this role I mainly focused on the second point, consistency. This focus was on consistency in quality throughout the entire map so we could deliver the high quality map that the game required.
During production of the project I was introduced to designing an open world. As a level designer in this project I took on a more faciliatory role that had me focus on:
Planning out and set dressing a roughly 1km2 area to create unique and memorable landscapes within my assigned area.
Facilitating planned missions by editing the terrain within those planned missions and allow the player to read the intended path within an open world.
Placing art assets to create memorable dioramas to allow these assets to shine.
Within this role I managed to produce and refine the ca. 1km2 area that I was assigned and create an easily readable environments for missions and a highly enjoyable free-roam area sprinkled with player activities.
