Many Cantonese people are stuck between two extremes. Specifically, Han Chinese Nationalism and Vietnamese Nationalism. In politics and society, between people there are usually three main issues: Ethnicity, Ideology, and Wealth. Nationalism mainly focuses on Ethnicity and Ideology. These are two of the issues which Cantonese people are stuck between. The Han Chinese moving south greatly endangered the National and Ethnic identity of Cantonese people, but it seems illogical to call yourself Vietnamese when you are Cantonese in this age where the two have diverged somewhat. As such, I propose a Third Alternative; Cantonese Nationalism. An Ideology for Cantonese People, made by Cantonese People. Many different people, races and ethnicities have their own sense of Nationalism and National Pride. And if you are a Cantonese Nationalist which is reading this, you are not alone. Many people will dismiss this as foolish or illogical; but I don't see why. Nearly every people has their own type of Nationalism. Whether it be Arabs, Germans, even the Japanese. With this, I say that Cantonese People should be able to have their own Nationalism. We have been oppressed for too long, and it is time that people start to speak up. This type of Ideology, while not as Nationalist, has still emerged in small forms; as mentioned before, the Milk Tea Alliance and Kapok Movement have already taken measures to ensure freedom but haven't made much physical progress. A more plausible approach is an online progression, where users can anonymously discuss these issues online. The Modern age and Twenty-First Century have opened up new forms for Communication between people, whether it be town-wide or worldwide. We should not ignore this and instead use it to our advantage. This is what the Third Alternative is. Another option for Yue People, by the Yue People and to protect the Yue People and our identity.
