During the moth of March we learned all about the holiday of Purim. We talked about being kind and helping others. We also practiced telling the story of Purim like in the magilla. We spent time in our classroom palace and pretended to be kings and queens. We also got to make hamantaschen and eat them too! We had so much fun dancing to Purim songs and celebrating the holiday by wearing fun costumes to school and handing out MISHLOACH MANOT (gifts of treats) to each other.
First we built our own palace in our classroom using materials we found around the school. Then we dressed up as King Ahasuerus and Queen Esther to retell the story of Purim to our friends.
One of the most important parts to our palace was the beautiful mosaic that we all worked together to make. We used all different shapes of paper and shiny jewels to create a beautiful piece of art to go on our palace wall.
Another fun tradition during Purim is making Hamantaschen! We all got to make our very own Hamantaschen cookies to eat on Purim during our celebration. First we combined all the ingredients in a large bowl. After we stirred the ingredients together, we each got a ball of dough that we flattened out and cut into a circle shape. Then we filled the center of our cookie with jam and pinched the dough together in three places to create a triangle. Finally we gave our cookies to our Morah to put in the oven. Later, during our Purim celebration we got to eat the Hamantaschen that we had made. It was so Yummy!
We each made our own noisemaker to shake really loud when we heard the name Haman! We used beads to spell our names and put them inside a paper plate. After we closed up the plate we could shake them and make a loud noise.
Mishloach Manot
We all passed out yummy food to each other to celebrate the holiday and to show that we are grateful for our Friends!
