February
The Sorrows of the King
Collage by Henri Matisse
Art Unit Showcase
During the month of February we learned all about Henry Matisse and his style of art. Henry Matisse used paper and scissors to make many of his famous art works. We studied his art work talked about the different things we saw in his art. We discovered that he use different kinds of shapes to build his artwork. We also learned about shapes and how we can use shapes to make a picture. Each child worked extremely hard to create a piece of art that is displayed in the hallway for the whole school to see.
Step 1: Painting
The first step in creating our artworks was to paint the paper that we would be cutting our shapes out of.
Step 2: Cutting out shapes
The next step in our artwork process was to practice cutting out shapes. After we perfected our cutting skills we cut out many different shapes that we could use to make our final pieces
Step 3: Assembly
The final step to make our masterpieces was to glue the shapes we cut out on to our final artwork. WE arranged the shapes to make different unique works of art!
