Since Spring 2022, I have participated in Trinity College’s Summit to Success Scholars Program (S2S). S2S is a high-impact, early-arrival, cohort-based student success program designed to support new, first-year students’ successful transitions and academic engagement by connecting students to essential campus resources that positively affect persistence and degree completion. The target audience includes first-generation students, student athletes, and students from under-resourced high schools.
In the Spring 2022 semester, I collaborated with my colleagues Cait Kennedy (Research, Instruction, and Technology Librarian) and Joelle Thomas (User Engagement Librarian) to offer a library session for the spring cohort that was designed to connect them to key library resources. We designed a team based Kahoot game for the students and used LibGuides to create a resource hub that connected them to essential research guides (based on their majors), citation tools like Zotero, tech help from our Student Technology Assistants and the library help desk, digital scholarship resources, productivity tools, and wellness resources. We also gave each student a care package that included an introduction to us as their personal librarians, a menu of library resources that included a QR code for the resource hub, basic school supplies, and a gift card to the campus coffee shop.
In Fall 2022, I collaborated with my colleague Jeffrey Liszka, the Arts and Humanities Librarian, to offer a tour of the library for the newest cohort. The tour was themed around “library as place” and included an introduction to our physical spaces as well as short guest talks from key staff members.
