OER Certificates

Open Education Network Certificate in OER Librarianship

In the Fall of 2020, I successfully completed the highly competitive, eight-month, Open Education Network (OEN) certificate in OER Librarianship. The OEN certificate program "is a comprehensive professional development program that offers formal training, a community of peers, and expert mentors in order to build sustainable, collaborative, and effective open education initiatives on higher education campuses."

The certificate program included participation in a five-week online course, weekly assignments, monthly required asynchronous short videos, mentor-led monthly cohort meetings, optional  synchronous meetings across cohorts, and program development support. The program culminated in the development of an OER Action Plan for my institution.

Creative Commons Certificate

In the Spring of 2020, I successfully completed the Creative Commons Certificate for Academic Librarians (see verified digital badge)

"The Certificate program offers in-depth courses about CC licenses, open practices and the ethos of the Commons. Courses are composed of readings, quizzes, discussions, and practical exercises to develop learners’ open skills."

Below are two sample assignments completed in fulfillment of the Creative Commons certificate.

Using CC Licenses & CC-Licensed Works

Completed in fulfillment of the Creative Commons Certificate for librarians. The purpose of this assignment was to create an instructional artifact that distinguishes between collections and adaptations/remixes/derivatives and explains the special licensing considerations when using CC-licensed works to create collections and adaptations.

What is Creative Commons?

Completed in fulfillment of the Creative Commons Certificate for academic librarians. The purpose of this assignment was to trace the historical development of Creative Commons, highlighting the social forces that led to its inception and to its eventual expansion into a global movement.
