Covid-19 Analysis

The goals of this project are to identify covid-19 positive patients and learn about their social determinants of health.

Covid-19 Patient Identification:

• Based on the EHR data

• Developed a rule-based system to capture the covid test and test results

Covid-19 SDOH analysis:

• Developed a series of analyses to compare covid-19 patients with non-covid-19 related patents, in terms of mortality rate, icu rate, ventilator usage, health utilization, and social determinants of health.

• Suggested that race may just be a manifestation of the varied disease prevalence.

• The factors for this racial disparity could be the different icu rates and ventilator usages, as well as the timing of the treatments, which are associated with the different social determinants of health.

• This analysis also highlights the potentials in capturing patient's social determinants of health via thorough examination of their care processes.
