Week 1 MD.1.1
MAFS.K.MD.1.1
Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object. Cognitive Complexity: Level 2: Basic Application of Skills & Concepts
In order to describe attributes of objects, students need to understand the meaning of length and weight.
Complete and add to your portfolio for math.
MAFS.K.MD.1.1
Gather items in your pantry to play of game of which weighs more.
Look at this picture? What do you see? Write a story telling what you can notice about this picture. Remember to use your math words in your writing.
Add to your portfolio when finished.
Complete and add to your portfolio for math.
MAFS.K.MD.1.1
Week 2. Continuing with standard 1.1
Go on a walk and find things that are taller than you and shorter than you.
MAFS.K.MD.1.1
Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object. Cognitive Complexity: Level 2: Basic Application of Skills & Concepts
Give your child a length of string to use as their measuring tool. Find objects around the home that are longer/taller and shorter than the string. Record your results on paper.
Add to your portfolio when finished.
Use your thinking skills to find the answers to these questions about weight, length, and height.
Add to your portfolio when complete.
Week 3 MD.1.1a nonstandard measurement
MAFS.K.MD.1.a
Express the length of an object as a whole number of length units, by laying multiple copies of a shorter object (the length unit) end to end; understand that the length measurement of an object is the number of same-size length units that span it with no gaps or overlaps. Limit to contexts where the object being measured is spanned by a whole number of length units with no gaps or overlaps.
In kindergarten, we do not expect the understanding of rulers and standard measurement. The idea is that they begin to understand that things can be measured and the rules of measuring. (start at the beginning not in the middle, make sure the measurement tools are lined up with no space between)
You do not have to use these rules. use any object around the house such as paperclips, legos, blocks, etc.
Place mini marshmallows to find the length of each line. Enjoy your treat when finished!
Add to your portfolio when finished for math work.
Week 4 MD.1.2 comparing measurements
As we begin to compare measurements, it helps to be able to see things that are shorter/longer, taller/shorter.
Put these mittens in order by size or find 5 objects around your house to order by size.
Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has “more of”/“less of” the attribute, and describe the difference. For example, directly compare the heights of two children and describe one child as taller/shorter. Cognitive Complexity: Level 2: Basic Application of Skills & Concepts
Zoo Measurement
An interactive lesson learning to compare lengths.
Complete the following and turn in to your portfolio for math.
MAFS.K.MD.1.2

How can you use comparison words to complete the measurement sentence?
