Goldy's face
Objective: Using the cnc mill create a wood cutout of Goldy's face.
Sigh, if only I had a wood cutout of the University of Minnesota's mascot to help me sleep at night... Oh wait! In this part of my portfolio, I go over the most time consuming, weirdly fun and irritating steps to make it happen.
Materials and tools
Goldy file
-Blank wood stock
-double sided tape
- Carbine motion
-End mills
-Chunk wrenches
-Jig
-First open Carbide Create and click on the gear, then change the values to match the wood block
- Secondly download the Goldy cnc QuickStart and import it into the application.
- Next I selected the entire model, grouped vectors aligned then the ungrouped.
- the first way to calibrate your x and y dimensions is by putting the wood and jig together and putting the to the end of the wood tile.
-using tape to hold the bottom pieces down calibrate by lowering the end mill to the bottom left section of the wood. On the computer make sure x, and y are selected to zero.
- to calibrate z, estimate and lower to the middle of the wood. On the computer selected to zero.
- When your done calibrating the dimensions of the wood you need to click start and wait for bout 13 minutes.
Thirds time the charm was really tue here. I failed two times before reaching the desired end goal and heres how you can avoid doing that! The first fail is when i noticed a sound that didn't sound like the usual buzz. When we went over to check I noticed that by looking at the bottom the tape got undone. Make sure that you add an approperiate ammount of tape or youll end up needing to recycle your attempt. Second is very avoidable. Update your computer before starting a new project. It turned off on me, and me needing to restart the process.
I learned how to resin print from a file! Also, the importance of gloves. Some of the material you'll be working with is toxic and can forever stain your clothes. You'll also need to make sure you don't overestimate your time needed to cure your object. This can leave your print soggy and collapsed. Improvements for next time is making something bigger.
