Project 2 – Introduction to Composition and Production

Project Aim: - To learn techniques and approaches to compose and produce music in a range of styles and context.
Task 1
Research music composition / songwriting techniques, and music production and recording technologies. Research what technology was available to artists at the time, what limitations did this create, what music production techniques / approaches were in use at the time – what effect did this have on the music? What composition and songwriting approaches are idiomatic of that time, how did they develop?
Deadline: Friday 6th December 2024 (Week 12)
Evidence required: Blog entries presenting and discussing research

Task 2
Compose a portfolio of musical starting points (1 per decade 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s,+) that could form the basis of a piece of music which demonstrate different styles of music from the last 70 years.
Deadline: Friday 6th December 2024 (Week 12)
Evidence required: Audio of your various ideas added to your website / blog.

Task 3
Choose 1 of your musical starting points and develop this into a complete piece of music for a specific audience, demonstrating a range of music production techniques.
Deadline: Friday 6th December 2024 (Week 12)
Evidence required: Audio of your finished composition on your website / blog.

Task 4
Evaluate your finished composition and composition ideas using screenshots and how well it communicates to a specific audience within your blog.
Deadline: Friday 6th December 2024 (Week 12)
Evidence required: Electronic copy of evaluation added to website / blog.
