Project 1 – Introduction to Live Music

Hand out date: W/C 9th September 2024

Assignment Brief     

Project Aim: - To work within an ensemble to perform a 15 minute set of creative covers and/or original compositions using techniques from music from the 1950's onwards and to perform a repertoire professionally to a public audience.  . 

Task 1: Research and compare a range of different live music performances and create a magazine style article explaining ‘What makes a successful music event’.  

Deadline: Friday 3th October 2025 (Week 4)    

Evidence required: Electronic copy of your article (Word, PDF, website etc)                                

Unit 1 LO 1.1   

Task 2: As an ensemble create a documentary style VLOG / BLOG documenting your ensemble rehearsal techniques and progress, interviews with members of the ensemble discussing challenges, progress and evaluation of in class performances.  

Deadline: Friday 28th November 2025  (Week 11)

Evidence required: Edited documentary Video / Vlog/Blog                                                                                                                                                                               Unit 1 LO 1.2   

Task 3: Create and learn a repertoire of "creative" covers and/or originals using techniques and stylistic elements from the 1950s to current day, rehearse, develop and perform this material in an ensemble to a public audience.  

Deadline: Performance Date 27th November 2025 (Week 11)

Evidence required: In class performance videos and final performance video.   

Task 4: Evaluate the effectiveness of your own and others contribution to the project, (you may want to refer to the ensemble documentary video).  

Deadline: Friday 5th December 2025 (Week 12) 

Evidence required: Vlog / written evaluation / blog post.
