A great idea would be to prepare yourself with an exploration or touring ship, because it's going to be a long trip out there. Exploration gives you the opportunity to see the outer space, leave the solar system and go on your own. It doesn't pay much, but if you return information about a system, that system can be even worth millions. If not more. In fact, you can get exploration contracts from explorers and researchers (or even give your own contracts, by managing an exploration company) to scan and get data on a system or a celestial body (inside or outside the system) and take that data back to the contract giver for a large or small payment. These contracts can get up from hundreds of credits to even billions, if the discovery is worth it.
Exploring is good and generates info that gets logged inside the Galactic CODEX, found here: CODEX
As said before, someone can give you contracts to find something specific and deliver the data to them. It can pay very well, and of course can make you visit beautiful places
This type of exploration doesn't pay much as in credits, but it sure pays good in knowledge and adventure. You can give others contracts and pay them too. Read about this here.
Exploration is a great option, and slightly increases your LegalRep as well, and it is a very laid back activity, usually.
