Q: Have you gotten a chance to rest in these 2 years?
Yixing: Not at all, last year there was CZR and SDC. There's no CZR this year, but there's Back to Field. But participating in Back to Field is already a break.
Q: Have long have you been preparing for your new album?
Yixing: It has always been in preparation, never stopped. I call it "Fifth Dimension", because compared to the previous 4 albums, it's a different dimension.
Q: Having new works every year, is that a KPI you set for yourself?
Yixing: You can look at it as a KPI, you can also look at it as your own job. Just like, do you not put on makeup when you go on programmes? Is putting on makeup your KPI? I think it's more of artists needing to do their own job. I really admire what Andy Lau has said before, "What's called going all out? We're just doing our job."
Q: For such a long time, as compared to acting works, you seem to be more willing to talk about your music.
Yixing: Be it acting or music, they're all within an artist's job scope. Because I debuted as a singer, I hoped that everyone will know me as a singer first, but at the time, everyone knew me through shows like Go Fighting, everyone wouldn't care about what kind of artist I am, they cared about my popularity. So in that period of time, I told everyone Go Fighting is a show that helped me a lot, but I'm actually a singer, I have my own music works.
Q: What style of boss are you?
Yixing: I'm considered a rookie boss. Ever since I became a CEO, I've started learning not to send work messages at odd hours and disturb everyone. Although everyone are friends who work hard together with me, everyone has also seriously expressed that starting a business is a thing where everyone works hard together. I'm very touched, but I'm also slowly getting to know about limits more, allowing everyone to rest better in order to work better.
Q: In this half of the year, is there anything that has left a deep impression on you?
Yixing: There is, I think it was my solo performance during Spring Festival Gala, it was a very important confidence booster. Because at that time I was at a bit of a loss, I thought to myself if everyone really liked my fusing popular music and traditional music together. To prepare for that show, I rehearsed for more than 1 month, but halfway through I was informed a few times that the performance has been taken off and whether it was possible for me to try and combine with other performances. There were a few ups and downs in the midst of everything, my feelings were like a rollercoaster. On New Year's Eve, I was finally informed that Picture Scroll was able to go on Spring Festival Gala, and it was also a solo performance. That was a very important approval for me, it was like being fired up.
Q: Did you watch your performance after that?
Yixing: I watched it, I'm not entirely satisfied, I think it could've been better, there were a lot of dance moves that weren't done till 100%. I was also nervous at that time, but I don't want to find excuses, didn't do well means didn't do well. Being nervous sounds as if it's an excuse.
Q: You'll welcome your 30th birthday this year, do you think being 30 is like a node? Is there a feeling of "standing firm"?
Yixing: Should be, life is almost halfway through. This question is very abstract, how to measure whether I'm standing firm or not? I think I'm not at the moment. I really like a book by Jackie Chan called Never Grow Up. In all my feelings, to pit it abstractly, it's "A man is juvenile till death". It seems to be really like that. I think what is in front of me is only the destination I want to go to. I think you have to charge forward with passion in this life, I only want to tell myself this, even if you face difficulties, face danger, you have to run with all your might towards the goal you want to reach with no hesitation, until the day you can't run anymore.
