TESTING
Every DECA Cluster Exam is 100 multiple-choice questions: EVERY SINGLE QUESTION IS BASED OFF WHAT IS KNOWN AS A PERFORMANCE INDICATOR. Performance indicators are DECA's word for subtopics, and these subtopics are organized into larger topics known as instructional areas.
The amount of questions that test each instructional area per cluster exam can be seen in the tables below. You should prioritize the instructional areas that appear most often on these charts, as they are also the ones that will appear the most on your test.
Generally, there are 3 types of questions on DECA exams:
These simply test if you are familiar with a specific vocabulary term, like "fixed expenses" or what a "blue-chip stock" is. Each cluster exam has its own set of popular vocabulary.
Most of these questions can be done without studying and instead with common sense. They either focus on what is ethical, or the meaning of a certain word like "innovative" that is not specific to the business world.
These questions are easily identifiable by their length: they usually include a scenario, and require you to have knowledge on the relevant vocabulary to be able to then apply that term to the given scenario.
DECA Tip: Watch Bowtie GOAT on Youtube!!
He has been a DECA coach for a very long time, and his posts are very good resources. On his channel, you can find many videos explaining events, but also walking through example ones. Below are two sample videos from him, but please feel free to find more on your own.
