WHAT IS A MANUAL?
A manual is a written event where students prepare a presentation to give an overview of a business to potential clients. There are two parts to a manual: the manual itself, and the presentation. Firstly, manuals are created, submitted online, and graded by a judge. Then, you present this manual to a judge at competition. Your overall score is a combination of the score you receive on your submitted manual and on your in-person presentation of that manual.
There are 2 types:
1. Pitch deck
Also requires the participant to their event's respective cluster exam (see "Testing").
2. 20 page manual
Requires no test
Although we attend the State Development Conference in March, manuals must be finished and submitted online by
mid-January (for specific dates, see our "Home" page).
Here is everything you need to know before our Manuals meeting! Use this to figure out which event you want and how you want to go about writing your manual this year.
Please note that there are no longer 10-page manuals, as they are now pitch decks (see below), and DECA is NOT virtual anymore.
To the left is a sample business proposal. You can reference this as a general guide to understand the formatting and general length of a proposal. This will allow us to get an idea of what your paper will be about in the case of any issues that may arise.
DECA Tip: Utilize Go For Glass Resources!!
In addition to everything provided by us, Go For Glass is a nonprofit focused on providing free DECA resources to students. Below is an annotated pitch deck that walks you through nearly every aspect of a manual: open it in a new tab by pressing the arrow in the top right.
Additionally, Go For Glass has a discord server, where you can interact with fellow members or ask questions. Open this link in a new tab to access this server:

DECA Tip: Watch Bowtie GOAT on Youtube!!
He has been a DECA coach for a very long time, and his posts are very good resources. On his channel, you can find many videos explaining events, but also walking through example ones. Below are two sample videos from him, but please feel free to find more on your own.
