Elizabeth Bernhardt, PhD (2018)

Dr. Bernhardt grew up in Minnesota and attended Saint Catherine's University for her undergraduate education. During her time at Saint Catherine's, Elizabeth completed two REUs, one at Indiana University and the other at Washington State University. During her time at WSU, she received both her Masters and PhD performing photomechanical materials research in Professor Mark Kuzyk's group. Currently, Dr. Bernhardt works for TOPTICA Photonics where she sells lasers to industry partners.

What were some of your biggest likes and dislikes about WSU Physics & Astronomy?

Likes: There are lots of leadership opportunities and everyone is so friendly and helpful.

Dislikes: My adviser didn't encourage me to apply for grants, scholarships, fellowships, etc.

What were some of your biggest likes and dislikes about living in Pullman?

Likes: I liked being able to use the bus to get anywhere. We could also bike.

Dislikes: The major airport was pretty far away.
