Catherine Hayter is grateful for the wonderful opportunities afforded her in creative arts and higher education teaching and leadership. Her research shows how the composition activities of marginalized peoples can be rhetorically powerful. Her most recent project involved archival research in the deep South exploring the scrapbooks of women and African Americans in the late nineteenth century. Before joining Saddleback College, she was the managing editor of Spillway, a literary and visual arts journal in OC, and published poetry in LIT, Rosebud, and The Bennington Review. She is committed to serving students regardless of their preparation and in support of their goals and is especially invested in the relationships between writing, critical thinking, and civic participation.
