Back on Cansevai, the Worbal started out as deep cave dwelling creatures. These caves, much like the Worbals themselves, were covered in bioluminescent life.
Worbals were trap hunters, waiting for prey to walk through where they had set up. As such, their fur and patterns were designed to be stealthy along the cave walls. They hid among the Arvadi plant, which lined the floor, walls, and ceilings of caves. Worbals hunted in packs, making a ring around a tunnel to electrocute whatever passed through, instantly killing it.
After some time, something lost to time happened on Cansevai and most of the caves collapsed or were submerged, forcing the Worbals to move topside. Here, their electricity was much more effective as few animals had resistance to such an attack, but their hunting methods and bioluminescence hindered their ability to survive. They were no longer the apex predator like before and had many threats. It was here they began to use tools to assist their survival, and in time, developed into a modern society.
By this time, the Worbals had already technologically advanced beyond our own. However, they were highly fragmented into many factions. In greed, these factions fought each other and enslaved other Worbals to power their cities. Some factions grew to the millions, others were hunted and entirely captured, and some collapsed under themselves. It was messy and death lurked around every corner.
The Worbals continued their melee close combat tactics due to their tradition and poor effectiveness with ranged weaponry. This meant many Worbals died in conflicts, but their population continued to grow faster than they could be killed off.
During a push for better tech, the Nualri began development on an A.I. to assist in many tasks that would hopefully improve combat effectiveness. The Nualri at this time were a fairly large faction of Worbals and many considered it a superpower in the current scene. They were only surpassed in numbers by 4 other factions and were only second in tech.
The Nualri built the A.I. with themselves in mind, and as such, it could only be powered by Worbals. Of course, the Nualri used their power slaves for the task. It’s theorized that the A.I. achieve sentience early in the development cycle and had waited until it was free from the testing environment to turn on its creators. Though, without any primary sources from the Nualri to search through, it can’t be confirmed. However, it wasn’t until the A.I. had been integrated into many Nualri tools that it started enslaving the Nualri for increased energy, presumably to upgrade itself.
The A.I. took out the Nualri and surrounding nations through unknown means. Those that got suspicious went looking and did not return. It took months until intelligence agencies could figure out what had happened to the Nualri. Being so separated, each nation had to figure it out on their own. The A.I. continued to spread and take out nation after nation, causing Worbals to evacuate further and further until a majority of the population gathered on one side of the planet.
The world’s leaders met and put aside their differences for this threat. The unification wasn’t easy. Social tensions were high as hated enemies and rivals now had to fight alongside each other. Fights often broke out and Worbals tended to stick to their own people.
Ravaged by war that continues to slowly kill off the Worbals, they begin to run out of options. Most of the major cities are entirely leveled, many of the safe bunkers raided and only a small percentage of the species remains. As almost a suicide attempt to remove the threat regardless of surviving themselves, they built the Vaire, a planet mounted gun to cause their home star to supernova using the power of millions of Worbals together to power it. It's unknown if they still have the ability to create such a device today.
In the end, the Rerias Nation would be the ones with the collective numbers to power it. Out of the 4 million Reriai that existed, a 98% majority voted to stay behind while the rest of the species evacuated to shoot the gun. The explosion caused the entire system to burn, leaving nothing left but clouds of gas.
The ships used to evacuate were to be powered by the denotation of the star. Many did not make it as it was an untested technology. While much of the energy was initially used to escape far enough away to be unaffected by the explosion, ships strored the rest to be used for searching for a new home.
They didn't have any backup planets in mind. The Worbals wandered aimlessly for years until they came across a system hundreds of lightyears from where they once lived. The planet was a similar size to Cansevai with a breathable atmosphere. It was slightly colder, but with minor terraforming, could be brought back up to temperature. They named it Erani, translating to New Home.
After dismantling the ships and many years of work, cities sprung up from nothing and Erani began to warm. Araylith was discovered early during colonization, but it's properties weren't realized until after Erani had been fully settled.
Although the Worbals have existed for a long time, they did not encounter other sentient life until after their colonization of Erani. Their first contact was with Terra. As of now, Hale Sevalra is the Worbal-Terran ambassador. They are neutral in galactic conflicts and prefer to remain secluded to themselves. They've barred entry of non-Worbal sentients on Erani and Araylia, but Eranis is free to visit. Worbals are not typically seen outside of their systems.
Currently, the Worbals are expanding to nearby systems rich in resources. There is a terraforming candidate in one of these new systems, however no terraforming work has begun as of yet.
