BACK TO WEBBY EXPLORES HOME | BACK TO WEBBYS WALKS HOME

In this series I try and follow the early parts of the River Tame, starting on the Walsall Canal near Darlaston we use the old Ansons Branch Canal remains to make our way to the River Tame (One of two tributaries of the River) we continue to Bescot where the two Tame tributaries meet and continue to the Tame Valley Canal, a brief walk to Rushall Junction near the M5/M6 Motorway Junction where we pick up again in part 2, continuing via Sandwell Valley Country Park and on to Hamstead.

JOINING ROUTES:  Beacon Way | Birmingham and Fazeley Canal | Grand Union Canal | Heart of England Way | Rushall Canal | Tame Valley Canal | Walsall Canal

In this, the first of my exploration videos, we start on the Walsall Canal near Darlaston and using the remains of the Ansons Branch Canal I pick up the River Tame, following it as best as I can through Junction 9 Retail Park, Wednesbury and on to Bescott, we continue to the Tame Valley Canal where I leave the River and walk to the nearby Rushall Junction on the Tame Valley Canal.

In part 2, I continue from Rushall JUnction, where I finished in part 1. This is where the Rushall Canal meets the Tame Valley Canal. A few meters walk along the Tame Valley and we head off towards Sandwell Valley Country Park, picking up the River Tame once again. We continue through passing Forge Mill Lake and make our way to Hamstead, finishing this section of the walk next to Hamstead Railway Station on Old Walsall Road

In part 3, I continue from Hamstead Railway Station on Old Walsall Road and we follow the river to Perry Barr Park, through the park and onto the One Stop Shopping retail park, and pass Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium, we pick the river back up at Holford Industrial Park and then follow the River to Witton. We leave the river again passing Aston Villa Football club and Aston Hall, passing under the A38M, we find the river again at Aston Reservoir, and finish this walk at Salford Canal Junction underneath Spaghetti Junction.

In part 4, I continue from Salford Canal Junction underneath Spaghetti Junction. This is where the Tame Valley, Grand Union and Birmingham & Fazeley Canals all meet. I continue along the Birmingham and Fazeley, leaving at Bromford Lane to find the Tame again. We find it at Bromford Road and find a path running close to the River Tame and the M6 motorway once again. We also learn that there was once a large racecource at Bromford. The path leads us out on the A452 near Junction 5 of the M6 where we will pick up the walk again in part 5

In part 5, I continue from the A452 near Junction 5 of the M6 and make my way to Water Orton, finishing at the railway station. We don't actually see the River Tame, only at the beginning and again near the end of the video, but we make out a pathway to follow the river as best as we can to a place where we can continue in part 6. We pass through Castle Vale and Castle Vale meadows as well as the outskirts of Minworths Midpoint Park.

In part 6, I continue from the Water Orton Railway Station. We have a quick walk around Water Orton and soon find our way back to the River Tame, finding some pathways that lead us to Coleshill Parkway Railway Station where we end this section of the walk

Part 7 of my exploration walk trying to follow the River Tame. I forget my map in this episode but manage to find a straightforward path just beyond Coleshill Parkway Railway Station which leads us to Lea Marstons St John the Baptist Church where I finish this section of the walk. Along the way we pass Ladywalk Nature Reserve and see plenty of deer

Part 8 of my exploration walk trying to follow the River Tame. I continue from St John the Baptist Church where I finished in part 7 and make our way via Lea Marston Lakes to Kingsbury Water Park. Finishing at a footbridge near the village of Kingsbury where the Heart of England Way crosses the River Tame
