Runnng Dictation - Instructions for this activity, Adaptation for DL: Prepare the aide or para in the distance classroom with instructions about Running Dictation a day or two before planning to use this strategy. Send the prepared text to the aide/para. The aide/para will print and cut apart the sentences. On the day of the activity, the aide/para will post each sentence in the designation location (in the hall or in the classroom).
Scavenger Hunt - Students work in groups to find and take photos of objects. One student adds them to the Google Doc.
Sube al camión (Get on the bus) - Students line up one behind the other. If the teacher says something they agree with ( Me gusta chocolate), the students remain 'on the bus' (in the line). If they disagree with my statement, they "step off the bus" by taking a step to the side out of line. Students line up one behind the other. Levántate si - Tell the students "Levántate si. . .tú tienes una hermana, tú trabajas, tú estuviste en casa anoche a las diez, de niño tenías un caballo, etc." As kids stand, periodically make statements about who is standing ,ask them questions about it, etc. to generate more interesting input that is personalized.
One Word (Una Palabra) - Each student is assigned a vocabulary word. All students stand. As the teachers uses circumlocution to describe a word that someone has, the student sits when they know their word is being described. Process continues until all students are seated.
¡Hagamos cosas tontas! - Teacher says "En un momento, vamos a levantarnos, vamos a correr alrededor de una silla, y vamos a sentarnos". ¿ Listos?, a la una, dos, tres ya!" Then, everyone carries out what the teacher said they they were going to do. This activity is good for future tense.
Scenarios - Students are in groups, as the teacher narrates a scenario, the students act it out silently. Several options include: 1) teacher shares the scenario, students get organized and freeze on "one, two, THREE" to show they understand what is happening in the scenario or 2) Students act as the teacher narrates.
Picture Narrations - Teacher simply describes a scene and the students draw what they hear (students can also add additional details in the target language).
Simon Says - "Simon dice toca la cabeza tres veces, corre en un círculo, baila como Shakira, etc.
Yarn activities - Students have pieces of yarn. In the target language, tell them a number to make with their yarn, a letter to make, an item to make, etc.
Quick Draw - Teacher asks a question and the kids draw their answer. Could have the kids divide a paper into a certain amount of boxes to draw in or do on white boards.
Toca la cosa - Provide students with a picture and tell them "Toca la cosa que. . yo puedo comer/vive en el mar/es mas pequeño que una mosca/etc.
