Instructional Cycle

An instructional cycle will be 6 weeks: 5 weeks of instruction, followed by 1 week of review and assessment.

Blocks

The year is divided into 6 blocks with sample units included in each block.

Level 1 Scope & Sequence

The Scope & Sequence for Level 1 is a guide for the most frequently used structures that should be included in level 1 Spanish. After the Preliminary list, the units may be taught in any order so that the teacher may adapt the structure and vocabulary to events and activities that may be seasonal at each school.

It is recommended that a Word Wall (or set of posters) include the list of the Super 7 and Sweet 16 verb structures and the other useful terms. These structures should be used frequently and reviewed as they are the basis for communication.

The Preliminary unit is a list of verb structures that are easily taught using Total Physical Response (TPR) strategies. These structures may be taught over a few weeks at the beginning of the course, or spread throughout the course as needed.
