Buy our E-book, Let's Knit Caps. This helps us to raise funds for our project. There are almost two dozens patterns to learn in this book.
As we posted our pictures on Facebook after each distribution more people started asking this question. To the knitters we would like to request that they buy our E-books if they like our patterns for caps. You can upload the book from the announcement board. This will be very helpful to us. Or you can also help us by making a blanket so that it will be easier for us to add more children homes in coming years. Raising funds for blankets has always been a challenge. Even if we go for making only 50% of our needs locally, we need more than 100 kg wool. With this we also need 10 knitters knitting / crocheting blankets for our project to make 100 blankets year round. However, you can still help us even if you are not a knitter/crocheter.
That would be very nice. It helps us to buy wool for warmers [blankets, caps, neck warmers] as well as helping to buy Books for Children. We can also use your money to set up Kitchen Gardens or Roof Top Kitchen Gardens in children homes. Money will also help us to send trainers to children homes so that they can teach young girls how to knit during winter holidays. Oh yes, you can be specific in which area you want us to spend your money. Please message sunita@winterprojectnepal for details.
Now, you can easily down load our E-book : Lets Knit Caps from our website. The link is also pinned on top of our this site too.
We stick with our standard size blanket which is 56 x 76 inches. With some exceptions this size fits almost all of the beds used in children homes.
35 stitches and 24 rows per square. However, we do not knit separate squares like beginners now as it takes not hours but more than two days just to join all of it. In 2016 when we were making blankets we found a way to reduce that time to only two hours. Therefore now a days we knit like a Pro meaning we make pre-joined squares. Each pre-joined squares will have a dozen squares in it. In this method you need just six big squares to make a blanket instead of 72 separate squares. If you want to learn more about pre-joined squares then you should visit our blog site Wool Work.
You can go with 6 mm needle for 6 ply yarn or you can also mix it 6 and 7 mm needles. This is my pick for the wool available here for blanket that goes all seasons and not just winter times.
Acrylic wool will be just fine for our project. You can stick with bright and vibrant colors to give hope to every child and make their mood upbeat when winter wears such a gloomy look. Please no dull colors ! We should not spread hopelessness in young minds.
