The curriculum used for English language learning at Laboratory High School MMSU is the MATATAG curriculum. The MATATAG curriculum is designed to strengthen the foundation of education in the Philippines, with an emphasis on enhancing the quality of learning across all subjects. It focuses on four key principles: Mastery, Accessibility, Transferrable Skills, and Agency.Â
The curriculum aims to improve the foundational knowledge of students while ensuring that learning is relevant and applicable to real-life situations. In addition to developing critical thinking and communication skills, the MATATAG curriculum emphasizes the importance of holistic education, promoting the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of students. It also aims to provide equitable access to education by addressing the needs of diverse learners and preparing them for future challenges in a rapidly changing world.
During the SEA Teacher program at MMSU in the Philippines, I was exposed to a variety of teaching plans and had the opportunity to study their components in detail. This experience allowed me to compare and contrast the teaching plans used in the Philippines with those commonly found in Indonesia. I was able to identify what is included in the teaching plans, such as objectives, instructional activities, and assessments, as well as aspects that may differ or be absent in Indonesian teaching plans. This comparison provided valuable insights into the similarities and differences in lesson planning across different educational systems.
As a result of my experience in the SEA Teacher program at MMSU in the Philippines, I was able to create a teaching plan/ lesson plan that is customized to suit my students' needs, incorporating the various components I learned about. I was able to adapt the format of the teaching plan based on the insights gained during the program, integrating engaging and relevant teaching materials. This allowed me to design lessons that are not only aligned with educational objectives but also engaging and effective for students.
Here's my lesson plan and teaching presentation:
